Wanted: Collegiate pep flag coordinator

Let's face it, a majority of us have already graduated from high school and the pep flag competition it contains.

Let's change that.

We're looking for ANY individuals with pep flag experience to participate in an All Star / Collegiate Pep flag team based at California State University Long Beach...

UPDATE
We finally have someone volunteering to coordinate our team: Loren Pendilla. You may remember him as being the coach for Bishop Montgomery Short Flags until 2005. If all goes well, we should have everything ready by this Summer for preparation of the next season.

A few have already made their mark in bringing pep flags to the collegiate level such as at University of California San Diego or at Duke University on the East coast.

California State Long Beach houses a number of pep flag alumni who have graduated from the top high schools including Bishop Montgomery, Carson, Channel Islands, Long Beach Poly, Narbonne among others. It gives the opportunity for the team to already have some knowledge in both twirling and performing.

All we need, is someone to coordinate these talented group of individuals into forming a single team. This includes discussing it with the CSULB spirit / club administration, recruitment, practice time, leadership capabilities, choreographer, etc.

If you're interested in coordinating this effort, or even just joining the team itself (it will be open to anyone 18+ not just CSULB students), please comment!

We want to expand our community!

i'm definitely interested! since we talked for hours about it on the chatterbox. i just don't know how involved i would be... (i.e. just a member? choreography? coaching? coordinator?) i guess it all depends with school and coaching CI. =)

i'm down though! let's do this!

If I only knew how to twirl, I'd be right there!

Will the position be volunteer based? What is the commitment level you are interested in?

I'm sure the commitment level is nothing like what we have in high school. College kids have varying schedules, not only with school but with work as well, so it will be hard to coordinate times for practice and performances. But I do hope this is something that finally materializes. GOOD LUCK and GO BEACH!

This is awesome! Really awesome.

I was at Long Beach State, too, when I juggled school, coaching short flags, and working full-time oh-so-long ago.

I have lived some since those days at the Beach, and I have to say, I'm a little torn about the idea of you lucky young adults committing what free time you have to a team. For example, although I am so grateful for the life-long friends I made through the BeachPAC, I realized only later that I was in my comfort zone and I could have used my time to truly delve into the other broad, life-shaping experiences that college has to offer.

And I tell you that I'm torn because...what I said above just sounded really mature...and boring!

To that end, I say, "Dude, if I were still in the area, I would totally volunteer!"
