Being "original" is some what difficult since short flags is a growing sport.
AS for other teams having similar styles of choreography and technique is becoming more common because each team that sets up a bar other teams would want to surpass that bar that was set.
From watching videos of short flags and other teams I noticed that Channel Islands, Morse and Carson are the top teams of the short flags world. Channel Islands being one of the oldest teams and still manages to innovate and produce new style of twirling. While past champions are falling behind the top tier.
Carson always looks similar for the past few years. Nothing surprising.

It's called a leg hold turn not a "leg spinny thing". And I'm not trying to defend CI but many other teams have done a leg hold turn before Narbonne AND CI. Plus whoever did the leg hold turn from Narbonne, it looked pathetic and ugly. Whoever did it on Channel looked great, and I loved the needle in the beginning of CI's one flag!! To tell you the truth, that was the only part of their one flag that I liked. Everything else bored the hell out of me, except when that one girl couldn't find her flag. Now that was pretty entertaining.

can somebody legitimately answer this question? i really dont get how hoover's routine can beat either narbonne or bishops, content-wise at least. both schools had way more variety than hoover (or st. patricks for that matter)

Carson stays the same because they stick to their style like morse , ci, bishop, narbonne. They all do the same tricks just in different ways and they have their signature moves.
And to the person who wrote that "CI dominated this season" was because they were good but not as great as past years when they were real champions. I honestly think they shouldnt even be using that chant because anyone could spring up from the ground and take the title from them like last year. Its funny because they kept using it as if Carson never beat them. The beats are way better.
Mark take that into consideration because it makes you guys look big headed into thinking that youre going to win. It's not always about winning you know that, its about having fun and doing your best and even if you did not place you guys are champions as a team. So no need for the chant you guys can save that for an undefeated season when you guys compete

Aye Narbonne's routine was hella recycled! St pats routine was pretty dope!
nationals is done and over with. narbonne didnt deliver when it came to prelims. they werent even close to even qualifying for finals. even glendora placed higher than narbonne. hating on hoover, spsv, and whoever doesnt change the judge's scoring. there was a SIGNIFICANT point difference between narbonne and hoover going into finals. its not here or there, but give it a rest. and instead of tearing down teams like camarillo or even newbies like spsv, as a small community we should be encouraging them to keep growing and get better instead of getting caught up in the bullshit politics of this short flags network that just talks shit about everyone after their hardwork of preparation for competition season. Hoover, you guys did awesome and keep continuing to prove yourselves! Great job!

Channel Islands Short Flags have won their 17th and 18th National Titles at USA Nationals. In USA history, they are the most decorated Pep Flag team. CI Short Flags is also the most decorated team at MDDTUSA winning over 40 titles. Check everything again, I have only stated facts thus far....well, according to wikipedia. lol!
As a CI alumni, I am proud to be a part of this legacy. I am also happy to see new teams like St. Patricks flourish and old teams renovating their styles. Through the years, I have seen Ci's style change. I have seen the golden years in which CI have swept the majority of the titles and a few years where we don't even speak of because of its horridness. But we always make it a point to show our faces and compete every year.
I understand one's concern about the "champion" chant. I can see how it comes off as pretentious. But in defense, many cheer teams use chants just like that. Secondly, the chant says "bow to the champions, CI". For all we know, the chant can be referring to the championship legacy of CI; the 18 National titles that far exceeds other teams. If CI was referring to them being champions this year, the chant would say "defending champions, or 2013 Champions". But it doesn't.
I am quite aware that one day, another team will surpass CI's title record. But it will take Carson another 9 more championships and Narbonne another 12 more, so on and so forth. So I am pretty comfortable and a-ok with saying Channel Islands Short Flags are champions overall.
I know that sometimes things happen out of luck, or its rigged, or other teams were a no show...thats why a team won. But can you really say that for CI 18 times? Think about it. And think about this quote. TDM ...this is for you...

CI is lucky Morse didn't go to nationals this year because i think they would have beat them. I really loved their routine this year! It's a 1st placer no doubt about it. It's sad to see that another year for morse went to waste like 2010-2011
Very nice indeed, but I thought Morse had 8 people this year? Maybe the weather was just too hot for the other 3 to perform in.
Morse really needs to change advisors! Their drill team isn't even that good, same with letterettes. Drill doesn't even advance to finals in nationals, and letterettes can only compete in DTU.
In fact, I should be your advisors! Haha.
I was kind of disappointed to see extra flags when they were marching in. I wasn't too keen on them conforming to adding extra flags just for their 3/4 flag section. I liked how they made use of just the two flags each member had and segue their way into a 3 or 4 flag section. However, I am impressed that they used those extra flags for most of their routine. I used to not like extra flags that other teams would bring in because they just laid on the floor until the 3 or 4 flag section and the teams dont use them again for the rest of their routine. So kudos to Morse for utilizing all their flags throughout their routine!
On another note, their music sounded like one continuous song. Besides their 3 and 4 flag section, I always looked forward to Morse's music because they are memorable. Like 2008's ANTM theme, 2010's Charlie's Angels and Paramore in their 4 flag section in 2011. This year it sounded like one song with sound effects added on for the exchanges and the angles they hit.
Other than that, I agree that this routine would have given CI a run for their money. Great job Morse! I'm looking forward to 2013-2014 season!
I think the reason why Morse had extra flags was because 2/3 of their members wasn't able to perform so they had to change things up a bit.
As for the music, they used 3, or 4, different songs, they were just used longer.

I'm pretty sure every team looks the same every year, they just use their tricks in different sequences and different music.
Also, Morse has natural facials that don't look forced, unlike most teams. Plus, their smiles are so genuine!
And I doubt teams want to change their uniforms every year to not "look the same every year".

you know how we put so much work and MONEY into competitions? you also know how the most you get back is usually just a trophy and "honor" or whatever?
I've been watching and getting more into the Dance scene lately. and I've come to realize they get MONEY back for winning their competitions. truth be told, my team was always strapped for money. and competing for it would have been pretty motivating.
is it because this is predominantly high school? high school dance teams sometimes get money. I feel like our community is being taken advantage of. Cheer, Drill, Pom, and other performing sports should get a piece back for winning. at least back to their schools.
