Last year's comp.@ Agoura lagged big time, this year it was even worse, if USA does not want to put the time to produce a good comp. then let somebody else do it. they ran behind in time, which i think is their trademark, music either started while teams were getting into their starting positions or started then stopped, it was terribly produced, and now they put themselves in an embarassing situation???

USA typically does not run behind on schedule - they are known for running on time. In fact, at Brea Olinda they had to pause in between a few performances because they were AHEAD of schedule and didn't want to get too far ahead. You also can't argue the music, because it is the coach's responsibility to hit play, not the DJ. You also have to take into account that USA produces several competitions throughout the season, not just the weekend that you attended, so you shouldn't generalize that USA is a poor event producer based off of two events you mentioned.

Ohhh, I saw a video on CI's 2 flag routine! Even though they weren't facing the camera side, it was an amazing routine! But, I don't think it would match up to Morse's routine, given that they will be going to nationals since it might be drill's turn to enter nationals.

I love the new uniform changes. After watching old Nationals videos it's a fresh sight to see a change in wardrobe. That includes flag design also!
Bishop, for example, has been changing their design a lot recently.(If not, I'm sorry it always looks different to me :P) I wonder if they're doing a different design every year or are just trying to find something that works. Personally, I favor this year's design but I haven't seen it in movement yet (which, in my opinion, has a great impact on audience/judges)Hopefully the color sequence makes this old design work for you guys. Go KNIGHTS! :D
Aside from the fashion of Pep flags does anyone know the reason why they separated 2 Flag @ West? Can someone help me understand this I just don't feel like they would do that for no reason. I have a feeling that it might be because there's a JV team but that doesn't justify why they went up against Narbonne and Camarillo unless they qualified for Brown Division (I'm not critiquing anyone, I haven't seen anyone besides Poly this season)
Maybe I'm thinking too much into this but I'm getting excited for Nationals! I have a feeling that this year is going to be more about all the smaller schools and their battles for placing well.
Hoover seems to be on their way up contrary to all the controversy last season about using other school's signature twirls/tricks. Arcadia is back with a new style.
San Pedro, SPSV, Oxnard, there's so many school that aren't discussed on this site that are working hard also.
Don't get me wrong, who doesn't love Morse, CI, Carson, Bishop, and Poly they always set the bar high for these other schools but they aren't the ONLY competing schools out there. It's also amazing that we get new competing schools like Camarillo, and SPSV, and I think West Covina has a pep flags team also. These guys keep Pep flags alive! Sure the top 5 schools are iconic but the love of pep flags lives on in all of us even the small guys. It would be nice if they all got some love.

SPSV just doesn't come down to SoCal except for nationals because they're like from Oakland or SF or something. But they bring unique twirl style.

West Torrance said that they divided up the teams into two divisions so that they can give away more trophies, and it wasn't based on skill. And I believe that according to the scoresheets, if everyone was in the same division, the scoring would've been:

If you were literate enough, you would analyze and assume that maybe, JUST MAYBE, uniforms tie in with the appeal of appearance, similar to how the routines look an appeal to the judges.
I doubt judges actually judge solely on the routine, Think about it statistically, there may be bias in their judging.

Yeah, there isn't a 'Uniform Appeal' on the score sheet but there is a section that includes "Appearance" (Under "Overall Impression"). Aside from make-up and hair what else is there to judge that on other than Uniforms and Flags.
Maybe you can call it a biased but I'm sure these judges have been seeing the same appeal of appearance for years now and might reward those teams who change it up. But that category is also split with Appropriateness and Crowd Appeal so the uniform change might not even count for that much -- if it's even counted for in the first place.

You could really feel the absence of Carson and Morse this year, it's almost depressing. Carson not present to defend their 2 flag title and Morse not showing up when people say they could take it home.

is it only me or does CI's routine look alot like Carson 2 flag from last year. CI copies so much from them.. Especially how the copied Carson's 3 flag and made it "flag change" lol aint foolin no one BITERS!

I wonder what it is about Bishop Mont's routines that the judges never give them their proper placings and respect. They're routines are good and clean most of the time, yet other teams are more 'sloppy' than Bishop, yet Bishop continues to finish behind these same teams.

Well, I would post videos if I went to their comps. Not many supporters go to their comps to record their routine.
Our best bet is waiting until they perform at pep rally, then I'll post their 2 flag routine. However, the way they perform and execute at pep rallies are different. They're sharper and fiercer during comps compared to rallies.
Don't forget that Morse has been robbed in 2Flag 2010 & 1Flag 2012, pretty much gives you an idea what we're working with.
Morse didn't compete at nationals in 2011 and they received a lot of praise. They were really fierce with only 3 people, and 2 of those 3 competed last year.
I think the boy from Morse will be captain for 13-14, lets see what he does with their team this year, especially when it's getting bigger!

It's funny how you think that morse are the ones saying all these things about their routine, new flash they're not the only ones who know about their routine(2 flag) because they took it to regionals.
But congrats to CI! Another easy win for them since they had no real competition. Can't wait for Morse and Carson to compete next season! So CI can bow to new champions like they did with carson last year (:
i agree. ci does copy/steal other team's choreography. they try to change things up a bit but it doesn't work out. they copy carson too much, it's annoying. and wasn't lbp's one flag from last year a dance theme too?

the only placement at nationals that was right was channel.everything else was all over the place.its like the judges dont even know what they're looking for.after watching those videos on varsity, its apparent that things that used to matter, like technique, difficulty, and content, dont seem to even matter anymore.something was really off with USA judging this year.unless sloppy and simple is what theyre digging nowadays.
It's funny whoever said Bishop is clean. Watch closely and think about it. They cut planes, their footwork is not clean, and the flagging is not "big". They flag close to their bodies and don't expand. Bishop is also known for having a lot of people, which is fantastic, however they should keep routines simpler. Flagging that is not synchronized can give a misinterpretation that they are sloppy. There was too much happening at once. I had to watch the video 3 times to fully see every trick and stunt.

Wow, look at those placings! Congrats to CI, Hoover, SPSV, & Bishop! As far as I know that's SPSV's first time placing in top 3, so extra congrats to you ^_^
Hoover 2nd in both divisions! SPSV beating veteran school: Bishop & Poly (& Narbonne)!! Makes me wonder who'll be making it to Finals next season, especially with Carson and Morse back in the mix.
since some of us have not seen Morse's or Carson's routines, let's just leave it be. Some of us dont have an idea what Morse's routine looks like so based on the results of nationals, CI dominated this season.
So unless the Morse routine somehow pops up and we do witness their "greatness," you all will just have to settle with the fact that Channel won 1st place at nationals. Stop being in denial cause at least Channel's routines are posted for everyone to see and actually view what they were working with this YEAR (yes this year, not 2010 or 2012).
so no more bitterness that Morse didnt compete because they were CI's "competition." You have to be in the competition to win the competition, or at least have your routine on public display to back it up.
nonetheless, congrats to all the teams that competed this year!
I like how CI changed their mount during their bow and arrow. I guess it's a result from the captain falling off the mount last year. (they kneel now)
Watching nationals this year makes me realize how amazing nationals was last year. All teams were on their A game in 2012.
Next year is going to be a good year! CI, Carson, Morse, LBP, Bishop, and Hoover? Can't wait until next year (:
