San Pedro First Look

Thanks to Kate for uploading this latest video from San Pedro.

Other than the Winter Celebration in January, I was unaware that West Covina hosted a competition for Sharp International also. Hey San Pedro, could we see you guys here later this season?

Well this video..

I'm ultimately pleased that there are a substantial amount of new tricks I've never seen San Pedro perform before; which pushes their difficulty level up a few. What is a little disappointing though is that their music may be a little fast for them. The counts for the routine seem to be slower than the song which makes them appear a little slow.

There's also a LOT of ripples in the beginning of the routine. Sorry to say, it reminds me of Bishop a great deal; but that's just my two cents.

SPHS Varsity Shorties- West Covina Competition 12/8/07

Thanks again to Kate!

i agree. the introduction is like combination with 2003 and 2005 bishop montgomery and FYI i am not accusing this team of anything. overall i believe this routine can speak for itself.

the routine feels a little choppy at times... the changes of pace are too random and unnecessary... your beginning has too many pauses and the ones that pause look like they are lost and should be doing something more dynamic... you also tend to do it throughout the routine.. this creates a sense of simpleness in your routine which will ultimately be your downfall..

it is clean but where shortflags is heading toward now.. clean and simple wont get you anywhere... its all about flash. if you went to the usa competition this weekend CI blew it out of the water with their innovative choreography...

you need more dynamics.. more levels.. more footwork.. more exchanges.. and USE THE FLOOR MORE. also.. if youre going to use flexibility specialties.. hold them longer.. youre not showing anything to the judges if youre going to do the splits or heel stretches for 1 second... it just doesnt make sense..

you guys stayed in the middle for quite some time. sorry to say but your 0607 routine was a lot better.. this one is simple and clean but not as difficult..

a lot of potential and your team can handle difficulty. they breezed through that routine too easy. kick it up before the bigger comps.

This routine is definitely rough around the edges (as with most teams) but cut them some slack, it's the beginning of the season and of course everything will be polished in due time. Good luck!

haha. your guys' ending. that girl on the right..when everyone's doing the head nods and the YAHs she shook her head so much she almost fell. ha it was hilarious.

you should really tone that down. and its not cute.

Wow. So much criticism here from anonymous people. I guess that some people can dish some stuff at other teams but don't want any dished out to them. While I do believe constructive criticism helps make routines better, I also know that it's not just about telling someone what they could work on, but also praising what they've done well.

I do agree that at some parts it is a little slow. In the groundwork, there a lot of pauses that could be filled with arm movement. I love that you have a lot of new tricks in your routine to add to the difficulty. You ladies are twirling a lot cleaner and twirl flatter than before. I can really see the difference from this year and last.

Does anyone remember that it is only DECEMBER? Some teams don't even have a finished 2-flag routine. That in itself is a big accomplishment. Great job Shorties! Keep it up! Hope to see you at Agoura & West Covina.

people are simply giving their opinions. especially helpful ones. if we didnt want the team to succeed we wouldnt be helping them right?

Good job ladies. Hopefully you can take everyones "comments" and turn them into positive constructive criticism. Don't be bothered by people telling you that you look that this squad or that squad...take it as a compliment...if someone can rememeber what another squad did 2 or 3 year years ago and are able to say you look like the then they must have done something memorable or likeable. Also, don't be offended if someone says you took another squads move, trick, mount etc...only you and your coach will know where your ideas come from so no one should be suggesting or blaming you from jacking moves. Keep up the hard work and we'll see you around! Good Luck!

I was on the San Pedro short flag team in the 1980's, and just found this googling on this topic. Great routine, ladies! A few of my thoughts: more exchanges, and more full-team choreography would be more effectve. Some of the staggered moves (e.g. the same choreography staggered in three parts) isn't very visually effective, though I think I can see what you're aiming for. Try watching and re-watching video of your team doing the routine, and tune it accordingly.

It's so early in the season. I remember barely having our routine done in December many years ago. Way to go, Pedro!

Sorry to be posting anonymously, I don't have an account. I'm proud to watch this!

AWESOME JOB LADIES!! You have some great ideas in your routine and sick A#@ tricks. I love the end pose, especially in the front.

If you add a little bit more foot work, moved a little bit more with your formations, and work a little on your showmanship this routine will be off the hook!!

Good job getting a routine done by December you must have worked so hard! Don't worry about all the haters out there, although they say things that make you wanna say "SUCK IT," it can help in the long run.

GOOD LUCK and keep your heads up!

OH MY GOSH!! way to go san pedro!
wooh shorties lol
i was on the san pedro squad from 2003 to 2007 until i graduted last year and to see this routine makes me miss it all over again!!
for the people that say it looks like this squad or that..where does anyone think ANY twirling came from?? if no one used [and/pr tweaked] other people's ideas we wouldnt have anything to work with in short flags.so kudos to whoever said "dont pay attention"
i love the direction of the routine..so different from past years but in a good way of coarse lol but what kills pedro EVERYTIME [and i know this] is the little mistakes.drops, though never wanted, shouldnt be happening at random times.just practice those tosses, and clean clean clean!

i know how hard these ladies work. when i was on the squad we aimed for a routine before december. it would change of coarse..but having that groundwork to build on is a definate advantage than rushing to make something great.
im so proud of you guys and i cant wait to go and watch you compete!!

its gonna be so weird sitting at a competition..lol
