i'm so happy for ci! they really pulled it together since the beginning of the season. this was (in my opinion) a better year than last year for them. they were so strong throughout last season but fell apart at nationals, but it was nice to see them come out weak and build up throughout the season and come out on top. same goes for lbp, even though they were shakey throughout most of the season, they impressed me today at finals!
i think carson and bishop went into nationals too comfortable with their choreo and thought too much of their past performances. not to say they didn't work their butts off, but by the looks on their faces after awards, they obviously were pissed. of course everyone wants to win, but there's a line between wanting first place and expecting to get it (and then not getting first). to me, they looked more resentful at the winners than upset with their own performances.

CI is back!! what a comeback! bishop is slowly climbing their way to the top, and lbp isn't far behind! carson will always have their squeaky clean formation changes and tricks, but unless they change it up and try new things, they'll get left behind!!!
everyone says narbonne's style is stuck in the 90's, but carson's has been stuck since 2006 until now. i love watching them perform, but i wish i DIDN'T know what was coming next in their routine!

I love that part for CI! it's soo catchy. They were flawless today! Good job everyone.. Loved seeing carson in their black uniforms, it definitely makes the routine much better. Definitely thought they were going to take 1 flag, but they had a great season none the less. Great job LBP for coming back from a rough start during the season and at prelims. It didn't even seem like you only had one returnee so great job new members for stepping it up. I'm sure you'll be back on top next year! Great job bishop, loved the routine, reminded me of Channel's routine last year where it was too elaborate.

C.I. definately laid it down today. their execution was beyond amazing and it was just fun to watch. i believe that they deserved first. they managed to build up every comp.
bishop was quite outstanding as well, though i know they could've done better. it seemed as if they weren't into it as much as before, maybe nerves got to them.
i agree with the ones on top. carson probably got too cocky with everything and thought that they could "bring it", but like everyone says, too many recycled things.
i was quite impressed with lbp's performance today. they really brought it together and it seemed like they got worked by their coaches, BADLY bwahaha. i thought lbp should've gotten third and carson fourth.
but seriously, these ladies worked it out this weeekend. but c.i. definately deserved first.

the placing was what was deserved.
channel came up with a bad ass routine and they executed it very well. they mastered three flag. and made a original and hardcore mount, with only five members! they thought outside the box and used it for their advantage.
Bishop came a bit creative, but their creativity was not executed as well. they have come a long way and it shows very well.
carsons routine looks the same as always. sharp and intricate, but after seeing the same routine for the past how many years, its getting old.
for the most part, i am satisfied with the placing, and i believe it was well deserved. no judges being biased.

Congrats to CI, they truly deserved it. They worked it today. Bishop, they were good as well but some parts were "too creative." Carson, clean and sharp as always, but same shit every year. LBP, you guys came a long way and worked it as well, just push a little harder next time. And I swear you guys were going to get third.

if anything props to channels captain on '05 for taking the risk of changes that were done.. i recall that was the year that channel changed up there style...
i seriously appreciated every team's routine, based on choreography as well as execution.. CI's routine was both innovative and executed perfectly, bishop's was very creative if not clean, carson's was fun to watch even if it wasn't anything completely new, and LBP's was so neat and properly choreographed for a squad of almost all new members. i'm glad they stepped it up for finals.
as for the placings, they were all very well deserved. i knew CI was going to sweep both divisions, and carson and bishop would be battling it out for second in one flag.. but for two flag, i agree with whoever said LBP should've been 3rd, and maybe even second. i feel that their routine was better than carson's, and much cleaner and more difficult than bishops.. but considering that 40% of the preliminary score was averaged with 60% of the final score, it's understandable that they placed lower than top 3.
congratulations to CI for two VERY WELL DESERVED championships!

so what if a channel alumni was on the judging panel? she's been on the panel for years now! she's obviously not a bias since "her" team has only won twice in the several years she's been judging. almost all of the pep flag staff on usa had graduated from a competing high school! like queen mark and king lillia. even liz worked for them! and now denny and quozette from long beach poly are going to be on staff!
say all you want about bias, but the highest and lowest scores are eliminated before averaging all the judges' scores!
It was nice to see the other teams congratulating each other and taking pictures outside. The teams have great sportmanship unfortunately the fans are the ones who create the drama.

wow what a competition. I seriously though Carson was going to take it for 1 flag yesterday and that Poly would actually medal, but what happened, happened.
Channel- Great improvement from last year! You're routine was muchhh cleaner anad full of energy. Your creativity is full of intricate twirls and tricks that makes the routine look so simple yet is difficult to do. I'm glad it because it's like watching old school channel again.
Carson- Great job coming back on top from a rough season last year. Loved the new tricks you showed and the partner showoff was amazing. I'm starting to think that you girls are the narbonne of this generation bc you do use the same tricks and twirls as in previous year yet still remain to be very sharp and dynamic.
Bishop- Your creativity is always phenomenal. Loved your tricks and twirls this year and mama mia was absolute superb. However, the overabundance of creativity is starting to remind me of CI's routine last year. Stick to simplicity to help your routine more visually appealing.
LB Poly- Hands down to the underdog this year for making it to finals after a rough start. You new girls stepped it up to the plate and the 1 returning member has lead them to a great season not to be ashamed about. Way to put of a good show during the finals. I'm sure you girls will be back next year stronger than ever. Keep it up.
Glendora- Keep it up! Your unique style makes you stand out from others in a good way. You're performing in the PEP flag division and you girls sure have so much energy and pep that it's always \musing to watch you girls. Keep it up and stay true to your style.

Next year should be intense as well, hoping something new from Carson, a LiL less from bishop, a new routine for CI that needs to top this one (tough), a now experiance LBP, Morse which were good this year, norbon which I like and the other teams that have something new to look at giving them insperation....

judging by everyone's reaction around me and seeing the actual performances on Friday and Sunday there was no need for a CI alum judge or any judge for that matter....CI was just better. I agree the mount was arrogant but they took a chance and it came true.

During the 90s everyone hated Narbonne
During the early 2000's people hated CI and thought they were bitches. 2004 at Nationals all the teams cheered when CI was dethroned.
Now Carson was propped as the team to beat even though this was their comeback season from having two weak seasons but they were the team everyone gunned for and you can read it all over the board.
So CI is the team to beat again. They do remind me of the old CI 2001-2003. I guess it took a couple years for them to finally get back to how I remembered them.
So the cycle continues...
On the comment on sportsmanship, if you're the champion do you go up to the other schools to congratulate them or do you let them congratulate you?
Either way it looks bad.
If you walk around with your trophy to take pictures with the losers, it looks like you're rubbing it in their face.
If you don't walk around and instead say thank you and congratulations when people come up to you, you look stuck up and like a bitch.
I guess the point is, the top team will be hated on no matter they do.
Good luck with that because it'll only be a matter of time when the hateful people that are in this pep flag community serve it back to you. Each top team experienced it, and each top team continues to.

have you guys every watched all star cheerleading? they all have a cheer in their routine that says something about being a champion, getting a jacket (nationals jacket), being the best of the best, etc, theres so many out there. teams put those in their routine because it pumps them up and in my opinion in makes the routine fun because everyone can get involved with the routine. it may seem like ci is cocky with that cheer in the routine. but uhh, it said that since the beginning of the season when they were losing but they pulled it together and definitely deserved to be bowed down to haha. i guess. but anyhoot great job to all the teams. i must say, lbp is one to look out for next year. theyre so much fun to watch! good luck everyone. i agree with the one above, lb poly impressed me with their performance on sunday. i didn't expect a performance like that from them. considering having one returnee, it didn't look like they did during finals. i think they'll just need to look more happy and bouncy next year.
and as for carson, they may have recycled routines, but schools do have trademarks you know. maybe next year they'll bring a something a little different. but carson is clean, and sharp

Monte Vista- It was great to see one of the NorCal teams come down and show us they are alive up there. hopefully they will work a little harder and come back next year.
It showed that Bell didn't have a coach. This is possibly the worse we've seen. It looks like the girls don't even practice, they should stop competing until they take is seriously so they don't look a mess. I thought they did better at regionals they should of kept what they had they would have been clean and it could have payed off.
San Pedro you just kinda faded. I thought you have a great look out there but it died. I just think your nerves got to that one girl too much. just relax and have a good time. It shows you got the skill just execute, and watch free hands!!!

Bashing everyone that may have a bad day or happens to be a little over weight, or happens to have a sister that is judge, etc! Just look at all the hard work these teams have done since the first time we saw them this year. Some teams have more ability than others, but that does not constitute all these bad remarks. Please try and have positive things to say or don't say anything at all. Great job to all the teams at USA Nationals. You all worked so very hard and as a coach of one of these teams I personally know how hard it is to go out their and perform under all that pressure. i don't understand why you guys are so bitter about ci winning, blaming it on the judging. in case you don't remember, they took 40% of the results from friday and combined it with 60% of sunday's results. in other words, ci had to have been performing well on both days (which they did) in order to take first place.
i guess carson's bitter at the fact that they don't have a judge on the panel anymore. the one year adeste was on the panel, he was FIRED from USA for publicly talking shit online (on his myspace) after nationals! bet you guys didn't know that one!

that stereotype's been broken for like 3 years now.
Oxnard broke that stereotype in 2006, and again in 2007 alongside Long Beach Poly, Morse, & San Pedro. all these teams are known for their former male twirlers. PLUS I think they were all Officers of their respective teams as well.
and HELLO. LBP's boy helped earn Champ title it in 2008.

Maybe when girls stop trying to run guys out, boys will stop being better then girls at short flags. They’re sharper, have more endurance, and don’t whine or cause drama on their teams. I think if you really want nationals bad enough you would have a team of only boys. (Not feminine boys like Kevin though)

and dont say its because morse is better, because i'm talking about the choreography. sharp obviously gives you your moneys worth when it comes to preporation for competition. USA is a scam for girls who dont know how to twirl. but hey, someone has to teach them.
usa camps offer many routines, including 1 for everyone which is called ALLSTAR, sideline routines, as well as routines ranging in difficulty where the teams are split based on ability.
i can't find it on youtube, but i remember seeing a video of three LBP peppers performing a usa routine to the song footloose at one of their football or basketball games. that was a really good routine.
why do people always say that carson recycles their sets? i mean, if we talk about old recycled shit, let's look at CI's flag change, redundant pyramid, that chick who does that split on a mount and points to her left, shaking the hips...that shiet, too, is recycled, right?
Yeah, but CIs routines look different each year. You can predict carson's routines. First they'll do angles into a mount where they toss to the girl being mounted. Finally into this type of angle \ \ V / / and into everyone in high V's says yeah. Then their first twirl is usually the one from '06 or the one from '03. That'll lead into their showoff then 3 flag sequence that isn't too difficult (compared to CI's). Finally into their chaser sequence where it's usually the captains "picking up" the other members or when they're all in a line twirling at different times (see '06). Ending in usually with faced paced music tossin one flag to the ground and ending with a pose without flags.
It's one thing to have trademarks, its another thing to use the same tricks and twirls. For example, CI's known for their change flags, but the set is NEVER the same as previous years. Trademarks shouldn't be your whole routine, and it's definitely just pulling something safe out the hat. Carson's starting to be more and more like narbonne, having great twirl technique, but the same thing each year. Try something new and step out of the box. Life's about taking risks and not just by playing it safe.
I LOVVVEEDDD LBP's routine yet it'd probably be more dynamic if their music was more upbeat like CI's
First, are we seriously paralelling "life" to twirling flags? Looord. Second, EVERY school is guilty of recycling and having predictable routines and sets. Third, we all know what happens to a team and its supporters that get all cocky after winning...they come back the following year only to fall off a mount. Mwahahahaha.

sometimes it's not only winning that matters. of course channel wanted to win last year but hey, they learned something from that year. also they learned a lot after agoura because they started winning after regionals. and guess what? they won nationals when the majority thought they'd at least take third or not even make it to finals. also quit bashing on carson. they made this season on fire as well as bishop and yes long beach is the shit. this is my favorite routine from them next to their 2006 routine.

i have to say..
i LOVE LOVE LOVE ci's 3-flag section. it's just what a 3-flag section should be.. clean, difficult, synchronized, and smoothly transitioned into and out of! such an improvement from their 07 and 08 routines! i hope they keep it up. of course carson has their 3-flag section, but they always use the same tricks, transitions and twirls. there isn't much you can do with 3 flags, but that's what makes it difficult. doing the same things over and over again makes them lose their fire and flare.
i also LOOOOVE lbp's mount section. the angles may be typical, but the blind tosses were a great (yet difficult) idea! i also loved what they did with their signature trick where they hit the floor and switch hands. the angle sequence they added was so clean! their splits were great, but i wasn't too big on their intro.
bishop's 2-flag mount where the girl falls back and pops up again was so creative! but the girl in the middle kind of gets in the way and covers the visual. i also loved how they got into their splits in the beginning.. when they faced one way and stuck out their leg and turned around into the splits.
carson.. loved their clean performance.. but there wasn't really anything i haven't seen before, besides the "matrix" move in their intro.. which didn't really have anything to do with twirling. but it was cool that their bases tossed with the girl in the middle during the mounts in their 1-flag.. it's too bad the girl in the middle dropped.
i hope all the schools keep it up next year. the only thing i wish to see different is chasers. i hope someone comes up with a more creative transitions into and out of and during chasers!
i loved long beach poly's and channels routine from beginning to end.

channel has worked their asses off since regionals, no doubt. they've come a long way... something sparked in them 'n it shows. the beginning of a season says NOTHING about the turnout.
that's what people were trying to say about long beach poly last year! they started off shaky and came out strong in the end! it's better than starting off strong and ending with a sloppy performance.
it's obvious though that lbp's routine couldn't stand a chance to ci's, but obviously.. clean execution beats intricate choreo. (cough cough BISHOP cough)
the only reason why CI looks clean is 'cus they they only had 5 girls. if they had more they would be sloppy as hell like last year!

Well they might have look messy last year, but that was last year... They changed it up n cut down when people were asking for more girls... It payed off, the team knew what they were doing n it showed!

i've always been taught not to make anything public unless you're OK with your mother seeing it. when i was on my school team you got permanently benched for doing anything illegal (underage drinking or smoking) or something that would bring down the reputation of your team.
